I conducted an informal poll on TikTok, aiming to gauge the Latino community's perspective on the term "Latinx." The results were striking—over 80% of respondents expressed negative feelings toward the term, describing it as offensive, insulting, or even a blatant mockery of Latino or Hispanic culture. Many participants indicated that the term felt like an imposition, disregarding traditional language norms and cultural identity. To gain further insight, I included a follow-up question: "Is Latinx a slur?" The responses were equally telling, with more than 60% of voters affirming that they perceive "Latinx" as a slur. These findings underscore a substantial disconnect between the term's intended goal of inclusivity and its actual reception within the Latino community, revealing a deeper cultural and linguistic divide.
